Sisters and Brothers,
We want to share an update on several important actions your Union has taken this week as we continue to fight for transparency, accountability, and your rights.
1. PSC Filing Regarding the Optimum–MasTec Transaction
CWA has formally sent a letter to the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) urging it to conduct a thorough review—and issue a formal determination—on whether Optimum (Altice USA, Inc.) complied with New York State law and PSC regulations when it decided to transfer the fulfillment side of its business to MasTec North America, Inc.
Generally, we are asking the PSC to assess whether Optimum was required to seek PSC approval before announcing or carrying out this transaction.
2. Grievance Filed Over Lack of Written Responses
Today, the Union filed a grievance alleging a violation of Article XXIV of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This grievance challenges the Company’s refusal to provide written Step 2 grievance responses, which are required under the contract. Written responses are essential for accountability and for the Union’s ability to properly enforce the agreement.
3. Request for Union Recognition at MasTec
With a majority of CWA Local 1103 and 1109 members now cleared to work at MasTec, CWA has made a formal request to MasTec seeking recognition of the Union as the exclusive representative for these employees. We have also asked MasTec to advise us of their availability so we can begin negotiations as soon as possible.
4. Effects Bargaining Continues
CWA remains actively engaged in effects bargaining with Optimum regarding the impact of these decisions on our members.
We will continue to keep you posted as developments occur. As always, thank you for standing together—your unity is our strength.
In solidarity,
Kevin
