54th Annual Scholarship Program

2026 Scholarship Awards


Investing in the Future of Our Members' Families

Since 1973, CWA Local 1103 has proudly awarded over $530,000.00 in scholarships to the sons and daughters of members in good standing to assist them in pursuing higher education and professional training. We are honored to continue this tradition through our 54th Annual Scholarship Program.

We encourage every eligible student to apply and wish all applicants continued success in their academic endeavors.


2026 Scholarship Awards

E. Gerald Horgan Memorial Scholarship — $2,000

Awarded in memory of our late Brother and Chief Steward Edward "Gerry" Horgan, who made the ultimate sacrifice while walking the picket line in defense of workers' rights.


Daniel L. Keenan Memorial Scholarship — $2,000

Presented in honor of our late President, who faithfully served CWA Local 1103 from 1964 through 1979.


CWA Local 1103 Memorial Scholarship — $1,500

Awarded in remembrance of the active members of Local 1103 who have passed away during the current year.


Howard T. Miles Memorial Scholarship — $1,500

Presented in tribute to our late Brother, who helped establish the Local 1103 Substance Abuse Committee.


Local 1103 Executive Board Scholarships — Two Awards of $1,000 Each

Authorized by the Executive Board to assist deserving students in continuing their education.


Thomas J. Wonsor Memorial Scholarships — Two Awards of $500 Each

Presented in memory of Thomas J. Wonsor, the first President of the Local 1103 Life Members Club.


Purpose

The purpose of these scholarships is to assist students pursuing higher academic education or professional training.

Scholarship funds may be used for:

  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Housing
  • Clothing
  • Educational supplies
  • Transportation
  • Any other educational expenses that help students begin or continue their academic journey.

There are no restrictions on how scholarship funds are used, provided they support the recipient's education.


Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Sons or daughters of active, retired, or deceased CWA Local 1103 Members in good standing.
  • Attending a college, university, trade school, or other institution of higher academic or professional training during 2026.

At this time, applicants are not required to submit:

  • College transcripts
  • Grade reports
  • Documentation of enrollment

However, CWA Local 1103 reserves the right to request transcripts or proof of enrollment before any scholarship is awarded.

Additional Eligibility Rules:

  • Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible.
  • If both parents are members of CWA Local 1103 in good standing, an application may be submitted under each parent; however, the applicant is eligible to receive only one scholarship award.

Entry Requirements

Completed applications must be returned to:

CWA Local 1103 – Horgan Hall

345 Westchester Avenue,

Port Chester NY 10573

No later than September 30, 2026.

Late applications cannot be accepted.


Method of Selection

The scholarship recipients will be selected by random drawing from all eligible applications received by the deadline.

Important Notice

At this time, CWA Local 1103 does not require transcripts or proof of enrollment with this application.

However, the Local reserves the right to request:

  • College transcriptsproof of enrollment, documentation of professional training before any scholarship is awarded.

Previous scholarship winners are not eligible.

Applicants with two parents who are members of Local 1103 in good standing may submit an application under each parent; however, only one scholarship may be awarded to that applicant.
