For more than 15 years, we did not have to file for arbitration against the City. That streak has now ended, as we recently filed two arbitration cases with the State. One that impacts all members involves the City’s decision to interpret the use of call back/minimum payment that differs from the way it has been interpreted and implemented for over 30 years. We believe we are right. We said so through the grievance procedure. Prior to filing this arbitration, we had a hearing with the State, and they told the City we were right. We will present our case at arbitration and seek the same result.
After asking our membership if anyone had interest in joining the Steward body of CWA, Brian Hayden volunteered and participated in CWA Steward training. He has already put his new training into action through the grievance procedure and by representing our members in investigatory interviews. We would also like to recognize Diane Dietman for her tireless efforts and thank her for all she does for our membership.
